- Started a new experiment - weekly notes. I want to write a weekly recap about what has happened in my life, at least the parts that are somewhat related to the topics of this blog. Inspired by Mark Boulton’s blog
- Initiated my second board-gaming afternoon in the office. We played the new “Dorfromantik” game. It was fun, we all had a great time and the session didn’t last too long, which is nice because time becomes an issue with more complex games if you attempt to play them in-between an eight-hour workday.
- Glove80 is the name of my new ortholinear split keyboard that arrived this week. It has a “keywell” which means the board is slightly curved around the fingers, that makes it even more ergonomic. The board has red Kailh Choc v1 switches, and it feels amazing to type on it. The downside is that I have to retrain my brain to get used to it. The hardest part for me is to get used to the linear key columns. I’m just so used to the keys being diagonally shifted.
- The whole keyboard topic made me think about learning new key layouts, and I am currently thinking about giving the Neo Bone layout a go. It is a very modern layout, much different from Qwertz and optimized for German. I do a lot of writing in English, so I’m still not entirely sure about it. It’s probably not worth it to learn because I already spent many years learning my current one. I wonder, maybe we’ll all just use Qwerty/Qwertz until the end of the keyboard days.
- I bought an air dehumidifier. Air quality is often overlooked, but it plays a huge role in how you feel. If you have a lot of plants in your flat and also depending on the location and season the air can get quite humid. If you are allergic to dust mites, it’s actually better to have less humid air, because that means there are fewer mites.
- I’ve started reading Cosmos by Carl Sagan, and it’s great so far.
- I have a new favourite colour scheme for all my terminals and IDEs: Dracula. Additionally, I switched to Fira Code with ligatures, also in my terminals.
- Now using Kitty as my terminal emulator on Linux systems because it supports ligatures and because I like cats.
- I installed Lunarvim and had some first experiments with it as a replacement for VSCode. Recently I had some problems with running a C++ debugger in Lunarvim, so I’m still defaulting to VSCode.
